Exclusive Deal Transcribes Classic Axis: Bold As Love Album For Sale on Newsstands
New York, NY (April 23, 2007) – Guitar World magazine, in partnership with rock legend Jimi Hendrix’s family, will release an instructional DVD and magazine tribute to one of the most influential albums of all-time, The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Axis: Bold As Love. Available on April 24th on newsstands nationwide, this musical tour de force provides fans with over three hours of lessons for hits from “Little Wing” to “Bold As Love,” as well as rare footage and a comprehensive biography of Jimi Hendrix’s career.
The centerpiece is an in-depth instructional video guide on how to play the classic album note for note on the electric guitar as taught live by guitar guru Andy Aledort. Aledort has toured with Hendrix’s side project, Band of Gypsys, in addition to participating in a series of Jimi Hendrix Tribute concerts. As an author of over 200 books of guitar transcriptions as well as a series of guitar-related instructional books and videos/DVDs, Aledort is renowned for his Hendrix knowledge and teaching style.
From the distorted tones to “backwards” special effects, Guitar World’s DVD strips down each track, revealing the secrets behind one of rock and roll’s most revered albums. Recorded at the Electric Lady Studios, co-designed by Jimi Hendrix and John Storyk in 1970, the DVD includes a 10-minute documentary featuring an interview with Axis: Bold As Love audio engineer Eddie Kramer. The feature also includes rare studio footage, original concert posters, photos and tickets provided courtesy of the Hendrix family archives.
Experience Hendrix, LLC, the company entrusted with maintaining the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix, issued the license to Guitar World for the Axis project. CEO Janie Hendrix explains, “We’re delighted to have worked with Andy and all of our friends at Guitar World on this fresh and informative look at one of the most important recordings of all time. It underscores the timelessness of Jimi’s music and spirit.”
Priced at $9.99, the DVD and magazine package will only be available on newsstands on April 24th at participating retailers, including Barnes and Nobles, Wal-Mart, Guitar Center and many others.
